Booting

• PCs all boot using the BIOS
• * Initialises hardware
• * Loads another loader (e.g. LILO) from disc
• Others are all different:
• * Workstations have nice booters
• * Older Micros/PDAs don't have facilities for other OSs
• * Boot from ROM with simple booter
• * May have to initialise hardware
• Linux booters:
• * SILO=Sun, MILO=Alpha, ARLO=Psion5
