Paul Waring, a regular of the group has very kindly agreed to give the talk this month, details below:
Title: Low Cost Computing with Linux
Many people have been mistakenly quoted as saying that there was a world market for perhaps 5 computers. Now we've moved into an era where many of us have 5 computers each, and the relentless pace of falling prices is taking us to the point where we have more computing power than we could possibly use.
In this talk we'll look at some of the options for low cost computing with Linux, including the Raspberry Pi and Creator CI20. We'll talk about the specifications for each, the tradeoffs they've made and the pros and cons of the diffferent options. We'll also discuss a development board which provides programmable hardware -- until recently too expensive for hobbyists -- for under £150.
