Summary

This month will focus on Debian packaging, with an interactive session kindly led by Paul Waring.

Steps covered will be:

• What packaging is.
• Overview of the different packaging systems available.
• Why you might want to create a package.
• Components of a Debian package.
• How to build a simple package.
• Getting your package into the official Debian archives.

If you would like to take part in the interactive session, you will need a Debian (or Debian-based, e.g. Ubuntu) machine. It would be helpful if you could install the ‘build-essential’ and 'devscripts' packages beforehand, just in case there is no network access.
