Thousands of Linux Installations (and only one administrator)

Owen Le Blanc, University of Manchester

Summary

Originally Linux distributions concentrated on home users, then on server installations. Now we need to have Linux on many desktops but without hiring an army of administrators to look after them. Is there a scalable solution? I propose one which appears to work, and which has the advantage of depending on solid existing technology.
