Summary
To explain how booting works, whether with GRUB or with LILO, I've got a short presentation about booting in general. GRUB is a boot loader that was not written specifically for Linux, but it does know a lot about Linux. It can make use of some features that have only recently been added to LILO, and it understands file systems and networking. GRUB is sometimes useful as a disaster recovery tool.
